Autonomy and intrinsic motivation is something that is often under appreciated and overlooked even by some good managers. What makes this egregious in the startup culture is that entrepreneurs pride themselves in their intrinsic motivation and autonomy and yet most times do not pass on the well placed value to their employees. 

Building trust is important and likewise trusting people is important.
