Public Transit and for-hire cab models

A great read from Nate Silver on the impact of Uber in NYC. I highly recommend reading the whole article. There are so many important nuggets in there that every city must read and comprehend.

Public transit is an important cornerstone in city building. It builds mobility, allows city expansion and can be profitable when run well. There are so many technological advancements that have come to fore that public transit becomes a critical investment for cities to be competitive in the future.

A final note: Uber has optimized today for the "cab-hailing" experience. They have done a great job there. However, the real gamechanger will be the one that determines the cheapest and the fastest ways connecting all the different transportation options to get between two destinations, allows a rider to connect them all together and pay using the app/phone.

I really look forward to that. \o
